Danube Financing and Capacity Building Dialogue: How do we make financing for development work?
Discussions on how to boost regional development and better implement macro-regional strategies, often focus on the availability of funding - on the availability of EU funding in particular. However, there is more to regional development than the mere amount of EU funding, that needs to be considered. Priority Area 10 “Institutional Capacity and Cooperation” introduced the first Danube Financing and Capacity Building Dialogue format in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment of the Republic of Moldova and Foster Europe in Chisinau from 26th to 27th of October 2017. The conference aimed at exchanging on how different funding opportunities can be aligned and used through a strategic planning approach in order to be most efficient and effective.

DSPF 11 projects selected for funding
We are happy to announce that the selection of the projects within the Danube Strategic Project Fund has been concluded!

Out of the 37 project proposals that were submitted in the beginning of the year, an independent jury selected 12 projects to receive funding. These projects are as diverse as the Danube Region!

The 4th Danube Participation Day in Budapest marked the start of the "Agenda for Participation". Over 200 participants from the Danube Region discussed how to support participatory governance at all levels and how to proceed in the next months. The conference sent a strong signal that cooperation between public administration and civil society - no matter how complex - alsways worth the effort.

Better governance for resilient cities and regions – starting a dialogue
If we want to establish stability, effective development and regional resilience, we first need good governance. Thus, building institutional capacities is the pre-condition for sustainable regional development. The workshop on “Better governance for more resilient cities and regions” in the framework of this year’s European Week of Regions and Cities in Brussels aimed at increasing capacities of local and regional public administrations through capitalisation and better coordination of funding across the European Structural and Investment Funds. The workshop paved the way for setting up a network of ESIF programmes and stakeholders from macro-regional strategies on improving governance.

The 6th Annual Forum of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) that took place on 18-19 October 2017 in Budapest, jointly organised by Hungary (current Presidency of the EUSDR), the European Commission and the Danube Transnational Programme, concluded with intense discussions and future challenges in the post 2020 period.
